
Staining solutions: Giemsa
Staining is a technique used primarily for staining of blood smear or bone marrow smear samples. It allows to differentiate qualitatively and quantitatively the main formed elements of the blood. In clinical hematology laboratories it is especially useful for the demonstration of alterations in the number, proportion and morphology of blood cells. It can also be adapted for use as a classical staining technique for histological sections.
Giemsa’s solution, which contains eosin, methylene blue, and a number of oxidation products of the latter such as azure A, azure B, methyl violet, and methyl blue.
